The Mahlgut Tamper Buzzer was designed to compress coffee grounds in the filter holder precisely and consistently with the right amount of pressure and to the desired depth. A simple and quick adjustable mechanism, where no additional tool is necessary, coupled with an ergonomic operation completes the concept of the Mahlgut Tamper Buzzer.
The handle of the Mahlgut Tamper Buzzer fits perfectly in the palm of the hand and enables a relaxed operation, whether you are at home at the domestic coffee bar or in the stressful business of a Café. Never before was the pressing of coffee grounds so ergonomic and efficient.
The tamper base of the Mahlgut Tamper Buzzer has no additional tools, and is continuously adjustable. Simply release the handle and screw the base in or out. In order to fix the tamper base in place, the handle is screwed down again. Thus there is no problem changing between different types of coffee or degrees of grinding and adjusting the Mahlgut Tamper Buzzer to fit the particular situation.
There are different methods of adjusting the tamper base for the particular setup, the amount of coffee grounds, and the fineness of grinding. One option has proved successful, namely, one pulls the tamper base further out, presses in the normal way, and screws the bearing ring in while the tamper is still in the filter holder. Finally, lock everything in place.
In order to be as flexible as possible, the tamper base of the Mahlgut Tamper Buzzer can be unscrewed from 7.4 mm to more than 20 mm. It doesn’t matter whether you would rather have the filter overfilled or use less coffee grounds. So that no vacuum occurs or that it be minimized, as the case may be, we have given the tamper base a slight conical shape. A breakup of the coffee puck when lifting the tamper is thus avoided.
If the Mahlgut Tamper Buzzer is properly adjusted, then the tamper process is very simple. It is virtually impossible to tamper on a slant through the filter holder and the exerted pressure is always even. Repeatability is increased and potential difficulties when tamping belong to the past.
Every coffee-lover or barista, as the case may be, has preferences regarding the tamper. For this reason there are three different models of the Mahlgut Tamper Buzzer. For the lightest version, the handle and the filter holder are made of wood, more specifically, made of German oak and manufactured in Sauerland. We offer the wood edition in both oiled and stained options. The Buzzer made of aluminum is a little bit heavier but comes in different colors. Those who really want something to hold should reach for the stainless steel version of the Buzzer. At almost 1.100 gr. it practically tampers on its own. The tamper base itself for all three versions is always made of stainless steel.
The professionals are excited, too. For example, the German Master Barista Erna Tosberg from Röstbar Münster competed at the World Barista Championship in Dublin with a Mahlgut Dozer and Buzzer and achieved the maximum point score.
A few weeks ago, the first covered dozers and buzzers was shown on our Instagram site. This coating comes from a company which is also from the Ruhr region and it reduces the adhesion of coffee grounds on the bottom of the dozer or buzzer. For one thing, the advantage of the coating is the non-stick property, comparable with that of Teflon ®, and in addition, the dozer or buzzer base has hydrophobic properties (water-repellent). The coating is food-safe, scratch- and abrasion-resistant, and Temperature stable up to 500 °C. The coating can be ordered as an additional option.
